The challenges of working with Cancer: what Oncology Professionals need to know
More people than ever are surviving cancer. Those with advanced/metastatic cancer are increasingly treatable but not curable and live with the disease for 5 or more years.
Being able to work if you can and wish to do so (whatever your diagnosis and prognosis) is, in our view, a fundamental right, and is both practically and psychologically beneficial. We know this from the IES/WWC 2021 survey and from the people WWC supports.
The survey also highlighted the challenges those with cancer face resulting from their treatment and transitioning back into work.
In particular the survey showed the need for HCPs to do a lot more/better in providing RTW advice: OH, GPs, CNSs and cancer specialists.
We recommend changes in HCP training and practice to address these needs
