Richard Edwards is a Consultant Adult & Paediatric Neurosurgeon based in Bristol,U.K. His main areas of surgical expertise include:
Brain tumours in adults and children: He has a particular interest in brainstem tumours and ependymoma.
Spinal Surgery: including surgery for cranio-cervical instability in children, daycase spinal surgery, spinal cord tumours.
Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy for diplegic cerebral palsy. In 2011 Bristol became the first centre to offer this procedure in the UK, using the technique initially developed by T S Park in St Louis.
Hydrocephalus, including Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.
Current areas of research include head injury, including non-accidental injury; intra-operative monitoring of cerebellar function; hydrocephalus.
