In this session we look at proton therapy, considered the most advanced form of radiation therapy, which uses a high energy proton beam to irradiate cancerous tumours.

The transition to proton therapy and treating the first patient in the UK

In this session we review published estimates and recent studies which indicate a 10-15% conversion to proton therapy in patients treated with radical intent, and how Rutherford Cancer Centres treated the first patient here in the UK.

Proton therapy: treatment workflow and the difference with conventional radiotherapy

In this session we explore the physical properties of the proton used in proton beam therapy, and what makes it possible to target a cancerous tumour and cells precisely, whilst sparing healthy tissue in the surrounding area.
